Parts! But our genome os much too complex for this to happen quickly.
1. Many conditions are polygenic, meaning they are controlled by several genes.
2. 1. Many conditions are multifactorial, meaning they are controlled by several genes AND environmental factors.
3. Many gene products interact with other genes and gene products so even if there was a way to solve one problem, you still have another.
4. Epigenetics are the changes on the DNA not involving the sequence of bases, but on how genes are expressed. We don't fully understand it.
5. There is no effective gene therapy at this time. You can't target only certain genes to turn on/off without causing changes elsewhere in the genome.
